“We got word around 2:47 pm (GMT 0547) today that the US military’s Osprey went down off Yakushima Island,” shared a spokeswoman with AFP.

“We were informed that there were eight crew members on board as well,” she mentioned. “At the moment, we don’t have any additional information.”

Yakushima Island is situated to the south of Japan’s southernmost main island, Kyushu.

This incident follows a previous Osprey crash in northern Australia back in August, where three U.S. marines lost their lives among the 23 individuals on board. The Boeing MV-22B Osprey went down on Melville Island, north of Darwin, during a military exercise for locally stationed troops.
