Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, had a meeting with the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during the United Nations’ 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai on December 1.

On a post shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Modi, in Italian, shared a snapshot and mentioned, “Had a great meeting with PM Giorgia Meloni of Italy during the COP28 Summit. Excited about working together for a future that’s both sustainable and prosperous for both India and Italy.”

Meloni reciprocated by sharing a selfie with the Indian PM, captioning it, “Cherishing moments with good friends at COP28. #Melodi.”

During the Dubai Summit, PM Modi actively took part in various one-on-one meetings, connecting with several global leaders to discuss crucial global matters. He held talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Barbados counterpart Mia Amor Mottley, French President Emmanuel Macron, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and UK PM Rishi Sunak.

While at the event, Modi had a meeting with King Charles III, recognizing his notable contributions to the fight against climate change. Modi expressed his admiration on X, stating, “Today in Dubai, I had a chance to chat with King Charles, who has always been dedicated to environmental conservation and sustainable development. His voice is crucial in the battle against climate change.”

Moreover, the Indian Prime Minister also had a meaningful discussion with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, covering a range of topics related to both bilateral and global concerns. Modi shared his experience on X, saying, “Had a productive conversation with Prime Minister of Vietnam, Mr. Pham Minh Chinh, discussing various important issues.”

Modi visited Dubai to join the World Climate Action Summit, a crucial part of COP28 under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). He underscored the substantial effects of climate change on Global South nations, emphasizing the importance of climate finance and technology to help these countries achieve their goals.

Additionally, Modi pointed out the unequal impact of climate change on nations like India, despite their smaller role in contributing to it. The Prime Minister returned to Delhi late on Friday night after the summit.
